In 2018, Vienna Airport has recorded the highest passenger volume in history with more than 27 million travellers.
And traffic is expected to grow further in 2019: The Vienna Airport estimates an increase in passengers by 8 to 10% and reckons with a further conversion in passengers by 2030 to 40 million.
The highly competitive position of Vienna Airport as door opener to other parts of the world, especially Eastern and Western Europe, makes the location especially interesting for international companies such as forwarding agencies and freight carriers. Each year the airport processes air cargo freight of around 295.000 tons. By 2019, The Flughafen Wien Group announced investments of 240 million euros into Vienna Airport. These investments are a boost to the economy as Vienna Airport expects the additional money to grow 25 000 jobs and enhance further investments of 2.5 billion euros by 2028.
Due to the rise in recent passenger numbers, Vienna Airport continues to expand its leading role as the largest hub in the region to destinations in Central and Eastern Europe. In 2018 alone, passenger numbers to Eastern Europe increased by 8.3% and passengers departing for Western European destinations rose by 10.3%. Since Vienna Airport connects 205 destinations and 71 countries and hosts 74 airlines, it ensures best connections to all parts of the world.
