Highest quality of living: Vienna is the international leader in political stability, healthcare as well as cultural and recreational opportunities, as the consulting firm Mercer ascertained.
The ranking compared 231 cities around the world based on 39 distinct factors such as their healthcare system, public transport, air pollution, safety and political stability. Vienna was followed by Zurich as the runner-up, with Munich, Auckland and Vancouver coming in third place. “The Austrian capital scores with its stable political and social environment, excellent medical care, diverse cultural and recreational offers as well as its exceptionally high number of international schools,” Mercer explains Vienna’s leading position in a statement. “Its low crime rate, effective law enforcement as well as outstanding offer in high-quality housing both in and around the city helped Vienna to successfully defend its top position in the world.”
Aside from looking at quality of living, Mercer provided a separate ranking on personal safety, in which Vienna ranked in sixth place.
