Top players from the Vienna Region have recently joined EIT Health, Europe’s biggest health network. They include the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, business incubator INiTS, Boehringer Ingelheim Regional Center Vienna (RCV), Kapsch BusinessCom, UNIQA Insurance Group AG and WILD Group.
EIT Health was founded in 2015 and is one of the eight knowledge and innovation communities of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). Industrial companies, research organisations, universities and entrepreneurs have teamed up in a unique network for open innovation to boost Europe’s innovation capacities. The alliance is aimed at speeding up the launch of new products and services, supporting young companies and offering new training opportunities.
With 150 leading players, €500m in expected funding for the period between 2021 and 2027 and a total budget of €1.5bn, EIT Health is the biggest network of its kind. Its members benefit from a wide range of advantages such as long-term partnerships, simplified project applications, access to a network of around 1,000 start-ups as well as up-to-date training opportunities.
The Vienna Region is Austria’s life sciences hotspot, accounting for almost two thirds of its companies and 64% of its R&D spending. The focus is on pharma, biotech and medical engineering. It also features a dynamic and thriving start-up scene with innovative players such as Medicus, Marinomed, MySugr or Lithoz, for example.
